Brightsong is a learning facility and we collaborate with several higher education programs throughout the Mid-South for clinical experiences for future occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech-language pathologists.
Due to the frequent demand for observation and volunteer hours, we accept a limited number of students each semester. The following opportunities are available:
Students frequently require observation hours before applying to school programs. At Brightsong, observation hours are offered the first Tuesday of each month, unless another student is with Brightsong for Clinical Rotations (see below).
Each semester (Spring, Summer, Fall), Brightsong allows 1 undergraduate student to participate in an unpaid intership program for school credit and/or observation hours. Hours for this position may vary each semester depending on the student’s school schedule, but generally the hours range from 10 – 30 hours per week.
Each summer, Brightsong allows 3 – 4 high school, undergraduate or graduate students to volunteer with our summer camp programs for school credit and/or observation hours. Volunteer hours vary from person-to-person, but generally range from 5 – 20 hours per week.
Each semester (Spring, Summer, Fall), Brightsong accepts a few students for clinical rotations. These clinical placements allow students to observe and participate in therapy sessions at the Brightsong Clinic in Cordova, private schools and/or homes. These students MUST be enrolled in a certified program.
- COTA Rotation: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) students must be enrolled in an accredited program. COTA students are placed in a Level I clinical rotation for 1 week. Due to the number of required hours, COTA students will be placed with the OT as much as possible, but hours with the OT will be based on OT staffing at Brightsong. If supplemental hours are needed, the COTA student will also be placed with speech-language pathologists and/or physical therapists throughout the week.
- OT Clinic Hours: Graduate students enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy program may be placed at Brightsong for a Level I or Level II clinical rotation, depending on the OT staffing at Brightsong. Due to the number of required hours and direct supervision, OT students will be placed directly with an OT at Brightsong.
- Speech-Language Pathology Clinic Hours: Graduate students enrolled in an accredited speech-language pathology program may be placed at Brightsong for a clinical rotation. Due to the number of required hours and direct supervision, speech students will be placed directly with an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist at Brightsong.
