It is normal for parents to have questions about their child’s development. Screenings help you find answers to your questions. A screening typically takes 15-20 minutes during which a licensed pediatric therapist looks at one or more of the following areas:
- Speech (articulation)
- Receptive Language (what your child understands)
- Expressive Language (how your child communicates)
- Social Language (how your child interacts with others)
- Feeding Skills
While screenings alone cannot diagnose a problem or indicate if your child needs therapy, they can help determine if your child may need further evaluation.
During an evaluation, a licensed pediatric therapist asks questions about your child’s birth history, health history, daily activities, current challenges and goals. Evaluations also include professional observation and standardized assessments. Results of the evaluation will determine if therapy is needed.
